Common Mental Health Problems of Women

Women are more prone to mental health problems than men because of lower serotonin levels. The level of mood fluctuation is also high. Mental health problems are caused due to various reasons like family pressure, sexual assault, biological reasons, and gender discrimination. Any of these reasons may lead to depression, headache, nervousness and many other mental health problems.  


Causes of Mental Health Disorders among women

Physical reasons:- Women are most easily affected by mental health disorders because of lower serotonin levels. Their body processes the chemical level very slowly. Both biological factors lead to hormonal fluctuation and depression.  

Socio-Cultural Factors:- Sexual assault, domestic violence, family pressure, gender discrimination are some of the socio cultural factors that causes the mental health problems among women.

Sexual Assault:- A woman has to suffer from sexual assault at different phases of life while she is in school, college or work place. Sexual assault can be in different forms like stalking, rape, commenting and unnecessary touching. Such kind of assault is the main cause of depression among women.

Domestic Violence:-Various health issues prevailed among women suffering from domestic violence. It causes both mental health as well as physical health problems if continues for long time. Some male treats their wife very badly. This creates physical as well as mental pressure. In the case of domestic violence, it becomes the responsibility of girl’s family member to support her and give the power to fight against whatever wrong is happening with her.

Family Pressure:- Female has to suffer from many kind of family pressures before marriage as well as after marriage. If pressure became unbearable it causes many mental health problems. Some people are still following strict tradition for women. They are not allowed to take their own decisions as go outside, make friends. Sometimes a well educated woman is forced to leave her job due to family pressure.

Gender Discrimination:- Gender discrimination starts from the family when girl child is forced to do household chores while brother remain free from all these things. They also get less comfort and amenities in comparison to her brother. Such kind of behavior causes tension and many health problems. But society has been changed a lot in today’s time. Girl child is getting same level of respect as boy child.

Mental Health Problems among Women

Women may suffer from many mental disorders in different stages of their life. Common health problems among women are depression, headache, nervousness, disappointment, restless and many more.

It is very important to attempt for the fast recovery of all these problems. Medication is required to cure them but with this, family support is necessary. Treat the patient with love and care in all health issues. There are some specific measures that must be taken as per severity of problem.
